Wix is a domain-hosting website that prides itself on its user friendliness. It is ideal for a first-time website builder who wants something simple and easy to navigate, not to mention it is extremely affordable compared to its competitors. Wix offers visually appealing layouts that are typically used by small businesses, artists, online stores, and restaurants. There is a Wix pricing plan for everyone, especially for those who are unfamiliar with coding and web development but still want to own a respectable website.
There are not a lot of hidden fees involved, but users need to be aware these plans only include a domain within the first year. After that, a domain sets the customer back $14.95 a year. All their premium plans include a connectable domain, free hosting, Google Analytics, premium support, and a waived set-up fee. Wix also offers email accounts through G-Suite, which costs $5 per user per month.
Wix offers a free option as well as five different paid plans for businesses of all sizes: Connect Domain, Combo, Unlimited, eCommerce, and VIP. Below, we’ve listed everything you need to know for each one of these choices.
The free option is a great way to try Wix out before fully committing. Because this plan includes a subdomain, it’s not the best way to promote a portfolio or professional website to clients. However, if you’re just sharing work internally, this plan does suffice.
2. Connect Domain
Wix’s most basic plan, the Connect Domain, is just $5 a month. It includes 1GB of bandwidth and 500 MB of storage. Keep in mind this is the only plan that includes ads. This plan is a good option for those who want to steer away from a subdomain, but aren’t ready to commit fully to the larger paid options.
3. Combo Plan
To avoid ads, the Combo plan may be better for you, which is ideal for personal use. At $10 a month, it includes 2GB of bandwidth, 3GB of storage, and a free domain. This plan is great for a business that is just gaining website traction and needs a way to distinguish itself from other competition. This Wix pricing plan also includes an ad voucher.
In fact, the Combo, Unlimited, eCommerce and VIP plans all include vouchers. Wix offers $75 toward Google AdWords and $50 toward Facebook ads. Google Adwords is an ad service to display content within the Google search engine. When a potential client searches topics related to your industry, your business appears as one of the first options.
Facebook Ads appear on select Facebook feeds, determined by factors such as age and gender.
We’ve found this is the most valuable option. While Wix says the Unlimited plan is the most popular, this isn’t really necessary. The main difference between the Combo and Unlimited plans is storage and bandwidth. You will be warned if you are reaching capacity. If Unlimited does become necessary, you can easily upgrade to a more costly Wix pricing plan.
4. Unlimited Plan
A lot of bandwith and storage make this a great plan for an already established brand. With unlimited bandwidth, this $14 a month plan is ideal for entrepreneurs and freelancers. It also includes 10GB of storage, an ad voucher, and two apps: the Site Booster app, valued at $60, and the Form Builder app, which usually costs $48.
The Site Booster app is designed to drive more traffic to the website. It allows the website to be more visible to customers and rank higher in Google, Yahoo, and Bing search results.
The Form Builder app creates custom forms such as online bookings, quotes, job applications, and donations. This app also allows the user to receive files via Dropbox and payment via PayPal as well as building MailChimp lists.
The eCommerce plan is ideal for small businesses. At $17 a month, it includes unlimited bandwidth, 20GB of storage, an ad voucher, the Site Booster app, the Form Builder app, and an online store.
The online store is a useful feature for those who sell products and services. A customizable design template, gallery, seamless checkout process, and managing tools allow users to flourish in their small businesses.
The top-tier Wix pricing plan, the VIP plan, is ideal for a medium-sized business that needs a faster response time than usual. It’s ideal for a company that’s already established. Ringing in at $25 a month, this plan is the same thing as eCommerce, except it includes VIP support, priority response, and a professional site review. It also includes the ad vouchers, online store, Site Booster app, and Form Builder app.
This plan also includes 20 Wix ShoutOut email campaigns per month, which allow users to send out newsletters to email subscribers without any coding involved. This means business owners can easily generate mailing lists, draft up newsletters, and send out custom newsletters with a few clicks.
There is a Wix plan available for everyone, no matter how big or small your business. If you want to more about whether this is the best web host for you, check out our blog where we list the different options.
